Ojedokun Adeyinka A. Aderinto <p><em>The involvement of migrants’ children in alms solicitation is increasingly contributing to the problem of child begging in Nigerian cities. In view of this, this paper examined the social organisation and survival strategies of Nigerien child beggars soliciting alms in South-West Nigeria.&nbsp; The study was guided by social learning theory. Data were generated through survey questionnaire and in-depth interview. Respondents were sampled through convenience and purposive sampling techniques. Findings indicated that most Nigerien child beggars took to street begging because of famine (40.6%) and drought (30.7%) in home-country. The majority (60.0%) were brought to Nigeria to solicit alms by their fathers; and their begging proceeds were primarily utilised for family upkeep. About 40% planned to return to Niger Republic after making enough money from alms solicitation. Efforts should be made by the Federal Government to probe into possible connection between child trafficking and child begging in Nigeria. </em></p> 2018-12-23T23:23:37+00:00 Copyright (c) Motivating Factors for Alcohol Consumption among Female Adolescents in Ibadan, Southwest Nigeria 2018-12-29T21:13:46+00:00 Kabiru K. .Salami Edet E. Rowland <p><em>The involvement of female adolescents in alcohol misuse in Nigeria is both public health and social concern. This study examined the prevalence of alcohol consumption and the motivating factors among adolescents in rural and urban communities in Ibadan, Nigeria. Five hundred copies of a standardized questionnaire were administered to out-of-school female adolescents assessing alcohol use. Twelve in-depth interviews were also conducted. The consumption of alcohol two weeks prior to the survey, among out-of-school female adolescents, in the rural and urban areas stood at 41.6% and 47.2% respectively. Friends were found to be the main motivator to use of alcohol at both rural and urban communities. About 24% of the respondents in the rural area preferred drinking palm wine, while 30.8% in the urban areas had consumed alcoholic wine. Respondents were exposed to alcohol use at an age range of &lt;10 - 16 years. Michael Solomon Rosecana Ankama G <p><em>Kaduna state is located in Nigeria’s north-west, with over thirty ethnic nationalities that have over the years been divided along majority/minority and ethno-religious lines. The result of the division is that the state has been the theater of constant conflict. For political exigencies, those rows have been blamed on ethno-religious differences that exist in the state. A careful examination of the situation however reveals that the gross inequalities that exist in the state accounts for the incessant violent disputes. Seeing that the main cause of the persistent communal conflicts in Kaduna state is inequality, the objective of this paper is to explore how the principle of equality can be used to solve the challenge posed by unfairness that is behind the lingering problem of consistent community conflicts in Kaduna state. Hence, many marriages are conducted solely under the customary regulations, and spouses are supposedly bound by extended kin bonds that should expectedly protect the marriage institution. Customary marriages, nonetheless, experience instability and dissolution. This is because of yet to be explored quintessential role friendship brings about for Organisations. This empirical investigation demystified influence of employees' friendship on work attitudes regarding work satisfaction, performance, commitment and intention to leave. The theoretical framework of this study was bureaucracy. A descriptive design was adopted using questionnaire instrument complemented by In-depth interview (IDI). With a multi-stage sampling technique, a total of 300 questionnaires were successfully administered, in two distinct Organisations – one each from public and private tertiary institutions in Ibadan here in referred to as Organisation A and Organisation B respectively – thus, the formula, 200 from Organisation A and 100 from Organisation B. In-depth interviews conducted in both institutions were 18 in number. The quantitative data obtained from questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques powered by SPSS version 21. However, the qualitative data were content analyzed. Results from the study revealed that, there was relationship between workplace friendship and job performance (r= .312); Organisation commitment (r= .208); job satisfaction (.187) p&lt;001, thus, the higher the predominance of co-worker friendship, the better the performance, commitment and satisfaction of workers. On the opposite, workplace friendship can directly encourage turnover intention (r=.166), but the older a worker becomes, the lower the intention to leave the job. Stakeholders and management of organisations at various levels are implored to embrace workplace friendship by creating opportunity for such and integrate it with formal relationship in order to ensure full engagement of employees at work.</em></p> 2018-12-29T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c)
